Michael Bloemkeartist statementI have been interested in photography as long as I can remember. Even as a young man I tried to take photographs that were a little different than the typical portrait or landscape. It wasn’t until retirement about 5 years ago and the discovery of digital photography that I was able to really begin working to turn my photography from a fun hobby to an expressive art form. It is interesting that since becoming more immersed in my photography; I tend to view the world through my viewfinder. I certainly enjoy all kinds of photography but my real interest is in finding simple subjects and focusing on lighting and composition. I am always trying to learn. I enjoy participating in art shows and fairs, meeting other artists and sharing ideas. I feel very fortunate that my art has been well received and an occasional award is always nice. My goal as a photographer is to continue to improve. I am continuously trying new techniques. I enjoy spending entire mornings or afternoons experimenting with ways to photograph an object to see if I can identify a way to capture its uniqueness. |
